Thymus praecox arcticus 'Albus' (Thymus praecox arcticus 'Albus') is a pristine, pure-white-flowering creeping thyme of exceptional garden beauty — a low, densely mat-forming aromatic herb that transforms sun-baked, well-drained spaces into a fragrant tapestry of fine-textured, deep green foliage blanketed in breathtaking pure white bloom each late spring. Among the most elegant of all the creeping thymes, 'Albus' spreads into a flat, dense, richly aromatic mat that performs magnificently as a stepping-stone gap filler, a small-area lawn alternative, a rock garden carpet, or a fragrant edging plant along sunny raised beds and pathways. In late spring the tiny white flowers appear in extraordinary profusion, literally covering the foliage so completely that the plant glows like fresh snow under the warmest sun of the year.

This professional-grade 4" plant arrives with a strong, well-established root system cultivated through professional horticultural practices — ready to spread and root across its new home with characteristic vigor. 'Albus' thrives in the heat and sharp drainage of rock gardens, wall crevices, and sun-baked paving gaps where it releases a fresh, clean herbal fragrance whenever touched or lightly walked upon — transforming ordinary pathways into a daily sensory experience. Its naturally flat, compact habit requires virtually no maintenance once established, making it one of the most rewarding and genuinely low-effort ornamentals available for sunny, water-wise gardens.

  • Pure White Flowers in Breathtaking Profusion: Tiny, pristine white blooms cover the fine-textured foliage mat so densely in late spring that the plant disappears beneath a living cloud of white — one of the most visually spectacular and seasonally distinctive flowering ground cover displays available for any sunny, well-drained garden position.
  • Richly Aromatic Foliage Underfoot: The fine-textured, deep green thyme foliage releases a fresh, clean herbal fragrance when touched or lightly walked upon — transforming pathways, stepping-stone gaps, and garden edges into a genuine sensory destination that rewards every passerby.
  • Foot Traffic Tolerant: One of the very few ornamental ground covers that withstands light to moderate foot traffic without losing its form or vigor — ideal for planting between stepping stones, pavers, and pathway edges in actively used garden areas where most ground covers would quickly decline.
  • Drought & Heat Tolerant: Once established, 'Albus' thrives in hot, dry, sun-baked conditions with minimal supplemental water — a superb performer for water-wise, Mediterranean-style, and xeriscape landscape designs where lean, sharply drained soil is the prevailing condition.
  • Pollinator Magnet: The dense white flower carpet is a rich, accessible nectar source that draws bees and butterflies in impressive numbers — making 'Albus' a genuinely beautiful and ecologically valuable addition to any pollinator-friendly garden design.

These 4" healthy live plants thrive in full sun (6+ hours daily) with very well-drained, lean to average soil; avoid heavy clay, overly rich soil, and standing water — this plant will decline quickly in wet or consistently moist conditions. Water sparingly once established; 'Albus' strongly prefers dry conditions and thrives with minimal supplemental irrigation. USDA Hardiness Zones 4–9; mature height: 1–3 inches; spread: 12–18 inches. Bloom time: late spring to early summer. A light shear after flowering encourages denser regrowth and can promote a second flush of bloom in mild climates.
