Irene Trailing Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis Irene) is a superior prostrate variety prized for its vigorous, cascading habit and prolific floral display. Discovered by Phil Johnson and named for his wife, this cultivar is more refined than standard trailing varieties, featuring darker green foliage and a denser growth habit. In winter and spring, the plant is covered in a wash of deep violet-blue flowers that are a magnet for bees.

This organic specialty herb is a professional-grade choice for erosion control on slopes, cascading over retaining walls, or as a structural "spiller" in large patio containers. It is exceptionally resilient, showing excellent resistance to pests and diseases while maintaining its aromatic beauty year-round. You will receive a healthy 4" plant, ready to add Mediterranean elegance and culinary utility to your landscape.

Why you’ll love it:

  • Vigorous Trailing Habit: Perfectly designed to spill over walls or act as a lush, evergreen groundcover.
  • Deep Violet Blooms: Features some of the darkest blue flowers of any rosemary variety.
  • Aromatic & Edible: The dark green needles are highly fragrant and perfect for culinary use in roasted meats and breads.
  • Drought Tolerant: Once established, it requires very little water and thrives in hot, sunny conditions.
  • Deer Resistant: High essential oil content makes it naturally unappealing to deer and gophers.
