Black Futsu Squash

Black Futsu Squash

‘Black Futsu’ is a rare and striking Japanese heirloom winter squash, valued for its dramatic appearance, excellent storage qualities, and rich, nutty flavor. The fruits feature heavy ribs and a unique warty texture, making them as decorative as they are delicious.

Each plant produces 3–5 pound fruits with bright orange flesh, a firm texture, and a beautifully dimpled yellow inner rind. The outer skin begins dark green to nearly black and gradually cures to a powdery chestnut brown in storage, adding visual interest over time.

‘Black Futsu’ has a rich, fresh, nutty flavor and stores exceptionally well, making it ideal for winter use. Vines yield 3–5 fruits per plant and perform well in large containers, garden beds, and open ground. Matures in approximately 105 days.
