Deep Rose Penstemon hangs deep rose tubular flowers with bright white throats along upright stems above a tidy leafy mound — a live 4-inch plant of Penstemon hybrida MissionBells 'Deep Rose'.

It flowers long and asks little: full sun or light afternoon shade, soil that drains freely, and water only once the surface has gone dry. That combination makes it a natural for sunny borders, patio pots, and the dry end of a pollinator planting, where those white throats work like landing lights for bees and hummingbirds. Stems cut well for the vase, and shortening the faded ones by half after the first flush brings on the next.

Fun fact: the old name beard tongue comes from the fifth stamen, which carries no pollen at all and is often covered in fine hairs — a small bearded tongue lolling out of every flower.
