About this Plant
Early Sunrise Lanceleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata 'Early Sunrise') is an All-America Selections award-winning perennial wildflower producing an exceptional abundance of bright, semi-double golden-yellow blooms with ruffled, layered petals atop slender, upright stems. This celebrated variety blooms earlier than virtually any other coreopsis, delivering a brilliant flush of cheerful, sun-drenched color to borders, meadow plantings, and native pollinator gardens from late spring well into summer — and returning reliably year after year with minimal care.
Grown from certified organic heritage stock, each plant arrives with a Professional Grade root system — deep, fibrous, and fully established for vigorous first-year flowering. Unlike most perennials that require a full season to establish before blooming, Early Sunrise produces an abundant flower display in its very first year, delivering outstanding value and immediate garden impact. It thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and is remarkably drought tolerant once established, excelling in native plantings, cottage borders, rock gardens, and pollinator meadows across a wide range of climates.
- All-America Selections Award Winner — Recognized for outstanding, consistent garden performance across North America, Early Sunrise sets the benchmark for reliable, long-blooming coreopsis in both home and professional gardens.
- First-Year Flowering Perennial — Blooms abundantly in its very first season, then returns reliably year after year — delivering exceptional long-term value compared to most perennial ornamentals.
- Drought Tolerant & Low Maintenance — Deeply rooted and highly drought resistant once established, thriving in poor, sandy, or rocky soils with minimal supplemental watering or intervention.
- Native Pollinator Powerhouse — Semi-double golden blooms are a premier nectar and pollen source for native bees, monarch butterflies, and beneficial insects throughout late spring and summer.
- Outstanding Cut Flower — Long, sturdy stems make Early Sunrise an exceptional fresh-cut flower, bringing weeks of bright golden blooms to indoor arrangements as well as outdoor garden displays.
These 4" healthy live plants thrive in full sun (6–8 hours daily) with excellent soil drainage — plant in well-drained to sandy soil and water moderately until established, after which natural rainfall is often sufficient in most climates. Hardy in USDA zones 4–9, growing 18–24" tall with a spread of 18–24". Blooms late spring through midsummer (May–July); deadhead spent blooms regularly to extend the flowering season and encourage a vigorous second flush of color in late summer.
