Collection: Gaura Plants for Sale

Gaura plants for sale, shipped as live, established plants ready to go in the ground or a container.

Gaura, often called whirling butterflies, is an airy, graceful perennial whose slender stems carry clouds of small white and pink flowers that flutter in the slightest breeze. It blooms from early summer until frost, tolerates heat and drought once established, and attracts bees and butterflies all season. Gaura adds lightness and movement to borders, cottage gardens, containers, and water-wise plantings, and pairs beautifully with ornamental grasses and salvias.

Frequently Asked Questions

Its small, four-petaled flowers sit on long, thin stems and sway in the breeze like a flock of tiny butterflies. Gaura is also known as wand flower and bee blossom. Botanists have reclassified it as Oenothera lindheimeri, but most gardeners and nurseries still call it gaura. Yes. Gaura is a perennial in roughly USDA zones 5–9, though it can overwinter unreliably at the cold end of that range. It grows from a thick taproot, which makes it very drought-tolerant once established but hard to divide or move. Good drainage helps it come back each year. Gaura blooms from early summer until frost. Removing some of the spent flower stems keeps plants tidy and encourages more blooms. To keep plants more compact, shear them back by up to half in late spring. Full sun, at least 6 hours a day, in well-drained soil. Gaura thrives in heat and average to lean soil; rich soil or too much water can make it floppy. We stand behind every plant we ship. If your gaura arrives damaged, send us a photo within a few days of delivery and we'll arrange a free replacement.
