About this Plant

Huntington Carpet Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis 'Huntington Carpet') is a vigorous, low-spreading rosemary celebrated for its exceptional prostrate, groundcover habit — sending out long, arching branches that hug the ground and cascade beautifully over walls, slopes, and container edges, all while producing the aromatic, needle-like foliage and pale blue flowers that make rosemary one of the most beloved plants in Mediterranean-style and herb gardens worldwide.

Grown from professional-grade nursery stock, Huntington Carpet arrives with a strong, well-established root system ready to establish quickly and spread reliably across sunny garden spaces. Its dense, low-growing habit makes it an outstanding ornamental groundcover for sunny slopes, raised bed edges, retaining walls, and large containers, where its fragrant, deep green foliage and delicate blue flowers provide year-round beauty with exceptional drought and heat tolerance.

  • Outstanding Prostrate Groundcover Habit: Long, arching branches spread low and wide to create a dense, fragrant groundcover mat — one of the most effective and beautiful low-growing rosemary varieties available for covering sunny slopes, draping over walls, and cascading from elevated containers.
  • Delicate Pale Blue Flowers: Small, delicate pale blue flowers appear along the stems in late winter through spring, providing a welcome early-season color display and attracting bees and other early pollinators to the garden when few other plants are in bloom.
  • Intensely Aromatic Foliage: The dense, needle-like evergreen foliage releases the classic, intensely aromatic rosemary fragrance when brushed or touched, filling the surrounding garden with one of the most beloved herbal scents in the landscape.
  • Exceptional Drought & Heat Tolerance: Once established, Huntington Carpet Rosemary is highly tolerant of summer heat, dry conditions, and poor soils, making it a premier performer for water-wise, xeriscape, and Mediterranean-style garden and landscape designs.
  • Professional Grade Root System: This plant arrives with a healthy, well-developed root system that establishes readily in well-drained, sunny conditions and spreads reliably to create a dense, fragrant groundcover with minimal supplemental care.

This 4" healthy live plant thrives in full sun with low to moderate water and excellent drainage — Huntington Carpet Rosemary is highly susceptible to root rot in consistently wet or poorly drained soils and does not perform well in heavy clay. A cold-hardy, evergreen perennial herb suited to USDA Hardiness Zones 7–11. Mature height reaches just 12–18 inches with a spreading width of 4–6 feet. Blooms late winter to spring (February–April). Trim lightly after blooming to maintain a tidy, dense habit and encourage healthy new growth.
