About this Plant

Hidcote Giant Lavender (Lavandula x intermedia 'Hidcote Giant') is a magnificent, large-growing hybrid lavender — a cross between English lavender and spike lavender — producing exceptionally long, deep purple flower spikes on tall, upright stems that tower impressively above a broad, billowing mound of aromatic silver-green foliage. Named after the celebrated Hidcote Manor Garden in the English Cotswolds, this stately cultivar delivers some of the longest and most dramatic flower spikes of any lavender available, combined with an intensely rich fragrance and outstanding heat and drought tolerance that makes it exceptional for bold landscape statements, large container plantings, and premier cut flower and dried lavender production.

Grown from certified organic heritage stock, each plant arrives with a Professional Grade root system — deep, fibrous, and fully established for vigorous growth. Hidcote Giant thrives in full sun with excellent drainage and is among the most drought tolerant and heat resilient lavender varieties available, excelling in Mediterranean-style, water-wise, and fire-resistant organic landscapes. Its large, architectural form, extraordinarily long flower spikes, and outstanding fragrance make it the premier choice for bold specimen plantings, large-scale border edging, fragrant hedges, cut flower gardens, and dried lavender production where maximum visual and aromatic impact is the goal.

  • Extraordinarily Long Deep Purple Flower Spikes — Produces some of the longest, most dramatic deep purple flower spikes of any lavender cultivar available, creating an unmatched bold, architectural display in borders and landscape plantings.
  • Exceptional Fragrance — Intensely rich, complex fragrance makes Hidcote Giant one of the most prized lavender varieties for fresh and dried cutting, sachets, essential oil production, and high-quality culinary lavender applications.
  • Superior Heat & Drought Tolerance — Lavandin hybrid genetics deliver outstanding heat and drought resilience that surpasses English lavender, thriving through long hot summers with minimal supplemental irrigation once established.
  • Premier Cut & Dried Lavender — Extraordinarily long stems and large, dense flower spikes make Hidcote Giant the premier choice for fresh cut flower bouquets, dried lavender bundles, wreaths, and professional floral design applications.
  • Exceptional Pollinator Anchor — Tall, fragrant deep purple flower spikes are outstanding attractors for honeybees, bumblebees, native bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects — one of the most productive pollinator plants available for the organic garden.

These 4" healthy live plants thrive in full sun (6–8 hours daily) with excellent drainage — plant in well-drained to sandy or gravelly soil and water moderately until established, after which minimal supplemental irrigation is needed. Hardy in USDA zones 5–9, growing 24–36" tall with a spread of 24–36". Deep purple flower spikes bloom in midsummer (July–August); shear by one-third immediately after peak bloom to maintain a tidy, compact form and extend the productive life of the plant for many seasons.
