Cheviot Sunrose spreads into a low, evergreen mat that is covered in apricot-peach flowers with golden yellow centers from spring into summer. It is a sought-after variety among sunroses, and its soft color, somewhere between pink and orange, blends with almost any planting.

Its trailing habit suits rock gardens, the top of a rock wall, and sunny banks, where it knits into a ground cover. Give it full sun and well-drained soil, water moderately, and let the soil dry between waterings. It tolerates drought and coastal conditions, and deer seldom touch it. Let it spill over the edge of a raised bed or a large container, or pair it with lavender and other sun lovers that like the same dry conditions.

Grower's note: Shear it lightly after the first flush of flowers to keep the mat dense and encourage another round of bloom.
