Carex tumulicola, commonly known as Foothill Sedge, is a resilient, evergreen grass-like perennial native to California, Oregon, and Washington.

This tufted sedge naturally occurs in open woodlands, meadows, and coastal prairies, where it spreads slowly by underground rhizomes to form a durable, naturalistic ground cover.

Exceptionally adaptable, Carex tumulicola tolerates deer, drought, heavy shade, and wet soils once established. It performs well under shrubs and trees, in meadow-style plantings, and in areas requiring erosion control or soil stabilization.

Subtle brown flower spikes appear in spring but remain secondary to the foliage. Thriving in part shade to full shade with moderate moisture, this native sedge can also withstand periods of dryness.

Organically grown and shipped with care—ready to provide long-lasting structure, native resilience, and low-maintenance performance in shaded landscapes.
