Prostratum Dwarf Wall Germander builds a low cushion of small, glossy dark green leaves that stays evergreen through winter, then lifts rosy pink flowers just clear of the mound in summer. Teucrium chamaedrys 'Prostratum' arrives as a live 4-inch plant.

Few plants hold a crisp line this well at six inches tall. Run it as edging along a path, mass it as tight ground cover on a dry slope, or clip it into a miniature hedge around a bed — it takes shearing after bloom and returns denser for it. Gravel gardens, rock plantings, raised beds and containers all suit it, provided drainage is sharp. Bees turn up with the flowers.

Fun fact: chamaedrys means ground oak, for leaves scalloped like an oak leaf in miniature. Gardeners have been clipping germander into knot gardens and parterres for centuries on the strength of that tidiness.
