Growth Timeline

  • Growing Season: Most fruits/veggies have their peak growing season starting in spring and extending through fall. They need a runway of consecutive warm days and nights (from 60-90) to produce fruit.
  • First Harvest: Fruits/veggies take 2-3 months to bear fruit and/or reach ripeness.
  • Final Harvest: Fruits/veggies start to give out between late summer and early fall in most climates. Some plants, such as strawberries, will become dormant in winter before popping back into action in for spring, but most fruiting plants will need to be replaced after their season is over.

Most fruits and veggies prefer warmer temperatures and will be dormant or grow very slowly in colder climates. Refer to the following guidelines concerning extreme weather:

COLD CLIMATES

  • Fruits/veggies require nighttime temperatures to consistently be in the 50s or above to survive.

WARM CLIMATES:

  • Fruits/veggies are made for the heat and will do fine with temperatures above 90 degrees.

Support Trailing Plants: Unless you are growing smaller plants (jalapeño or micro-tomatoes) you might want to use stakes, trellises, or cages to support the plants as they grow. This will prevent them from sprawling on the ground. Train the vines to grow vertically for better air circulation and easier harvesting.

Squash, Winter 'Table Queen' (Cucurbita pepo 'Table Queen') is a classic, deeply beloved acorn squash variety that has earned its enduring place in American kitchen gardens for generations — producing perfectly sized, deeply ridged, dark green acorn-shaped fruits with rich, sweet, nutty, deep orange flesh that delivers one of the most satisfying and versatile culinary experiences available from the home vegetable garden. 'Table Queen' is the original, standard-setting acorn squash cultivar against which all others in its class are measured — prized for reliable, prolific productivity, excellent long-term storage quality, and outstanding flavor that deepens and sweetens further after a period of curing. Each vine produces an abundant crop of characteristic dark green fruits with a touch of orange blushing at maturity, typically weighing one to two pounds and perfectly sized for individual to two-person servings.

This professional-grade 4" organic seedling has been cultivated through certified organic practices and arrives with a healthy, well-established root system ready to transplant and grow vigorously into the warm-season garden. 'Table Queen' thrives in full sun with rich, well-drained soil, consistent deep moisture, and the generous space its vigorous vining habit requires — performing magnificently in large raised beds, in-ground vegetable gardens, and spacious growing areas where it can spread freely and produce its characteristic, generous harvest of deeply flavored, excellent-storing acorn squash from midsummer through fall.

  • Classic Acorn Squash — Original Standard-Setting Variety: 'Table Queen' is the original heritage acorn squash cultivar that established the standard for the entire class — delivering the deep, sweet, nutty flavor, perfectly sized dark green fruits, and reliable prolific productivity that have made it a treasured kitchen garden staple for generations of home gardeners.
  • Rich, Sweet, Deep Orange Flesh: The deeply ridged dark green fruits reveal a richly colored, sweet, nutty, deep orange interior of outstanding flavor — excellent baked, roasted, stuffed, steamed, and pureed for soups, delivering a deeply satisfying culinary experience across a wide range of kitchen preparations.
  • Certified Organic Root System: Grown through certified organic practices from the start, this transplant arrives with a strong, well-developed root system that establishes quickly in warm, fertile soil and begins putting on vigorous vining growth with impressive speed — setting the stage for an abundant, well-timed harvest.
  • Excellent Storage & Keeping Quality: Mature fruits store exceptionally well in a cool, dry location for two to three months after harvest — one of the best-keeping winter squash varieties available, extending the garden harvest deep into winter and making homegrown squash available to the kitchen long after the growing season ends.
  • Prolific, Reliable Harvest: Each vigorous vine produces an abundant crop of perfectly sized acorn squash throughout the harvest season — a reliable, productive, and deeply rewarding kitchen garden crop that delivers exceptional culinary value and satisfaction from a single, well-tended organic transplant.

These 4" organic seedlings thrive in full sun (8+ hours daily) with rich, fertile, well-drained soil and consistent deep watering; squash is a heavy feeder and deep drinker — prepare planting beds with generous compost and maintain consistent soil moisture throughout the growing season. Transplant outdoors only after the last frost date when soil temperatures have warmed to at least 65°F. Days to maturity: approximately 80–85 days from transplant. Harvest when skin has hardened to dark green with orange blushing at the blossom end. Cure harvested fruits at room temperature for one to two weeks before storage to maximize sweetness and keeping quality. Allow 4–6 feet of spacing per plant for vigorous vining growth. Mature vine length: 6–10 feet.

We take great care to ensure our seedlings are healthy and well-established before they’re shipped. We pre-germinate the organic seeds and grow them up to 12 weeks before shipping them as mature plants ready for transplant. Seedlings typically arrive within 1-4 days.
