Tesla Lippia is a live 4-inch plant that spreads into a tight, low carpet of fine gray-green leaves, studded through the warm months with small pink, white and purple flower heads.

Phyla nodiflora 'Tesla' is a California native worth knowing if you are tired of lawn: it runs flat across open ground, softens a slope, threads between stepping stones and edges a bed informally, all while giving pollinators something to visit. It takes sun or part shade, wants soil that drains, and prefers a deep soak only once the surface has dried.

Design note: plant it where it is allowed to run. The rooted runners knit into a mat quickly and lift easily in spring if you want more elsewhere, and a shear after heavy flowering keeps the edges honest.
