Gold Flash Trefoil trails long stems hung with curved gold flowers tipped in red-orange, each shaped like a parrot's beak or a lobster claw. The show runs from spring into summer and gives any planting a tropical look.

Let it spill from a hanging basket, a tall container or the top of a wall, or use it as a ground cover on a sunny bank or in a rock garden. It takes heat, humidity and drought in stride and grows in full sun or partial shade; water moderately and let the soil dry between waterings. Where winters stay mild it is a perennial, and elsewhere it makes a long-season annual for baskets and pots.

Design note: Its trailing habit makes it a natural spiller in a mixed container, so set an upright plant in the center and let the gold flowers cascade over the rim.
