Guatemala Gold Coneflower (Echinacea hybrid 'Guatemala Gold') is a captivating and rare hybrid coneflower that pushes the boundaries of the genus with rich, warm golden-yellow petals surrounding a prominent, burnished copper-bronze central cone. This striking color combination — uncommon in the Echinacea world — delivers bold, jewel-toned warmth that elevates mixed borders, pollinator plantings, and naturalistic prairie-inspired garden designs. Strong, upright stems bear multiple blooms per plant, creating an extended, layered floral display from midsummer deep into fall.

Developed from Professional Grade root systems, Guatemala Gold is as resilient as it is beautiful. Like all echinacea, it is exceptionally drought-tolerant once established, thrives in lean to moderately fertile soil, and requires no staking thanks to its sturdy, self-supporting stems. Its long-lasting flowers are magnets for bumblebees, butterflies, and goldfinches, which flock to the seed-laden cones from late summer through winter — providing multi-season wildlife value that few perennials can match.

Why You'll Love It

  • Rare Warm Golden-Yellow Blooms: Rich golden-yellow petals surrounding a burnished copper-bronze cone deliver a bold, uncommon color combination that stands out dramatically in borders and naturalistic plantings.
  • Extended Multi-Season Interest: Blooms midsummer through fall, then persistent seed-filled cones provide striking winter structure and a critical food source for goldfinches and songbirds through the coldest months.
  • Premier Pollinator Magnet: Nectar-rich flowers attract bumblebees, monarch butterflies, swallowtails, and beneficial insects in peak summer, making this an essential plant for pollinator and habitat garden designs.
  • Drought-Tolerant Prairie Performer: Once established, handles extended dry periods with ease — a top-tier choice for low-water, xeriscape, and water-wise perennial border designs.
  • No-Fuss, Long-Lived Perennial: Sturdy, self-supporting stems never require staking, and the plant grows more vigorous and floriferous with each passing season as its root system matures.

These 4" healthy live plants thrive in full sun — at least 6 hours daily — in well-draining, lean to moderately fertile soil. Excellent drainage is important; avoid heavy clay and consistently wet conditions. Water regularly during the first season to establish deep roots, then reduce irrigation significantly. Best suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 4–9. Mature height: 24–36 inches; spread: 18–24 inches. Blooms midsummer through fall. Leave seed heads standing through winter for songbird habitat and dramatic cold-season structure; cut back to the ground in early spring before new growth emerges.
